Bewitched
A poem
bewitch
verb: to cast a spell over; to enchant; charm; fascinate
I forget my name, when you’re near
My wits diminish, puddling at my feet
Rippling ‘round my toes, in liquid defeat
My tongue is wadded in cotton at your approach
And to contemplate the shape of you
Is to invite awe and spectacle
In perfect symmetry
A mind aroused by the flood of hot blood you bring
Brain doused in a vat of chemical stimulants and set ablaze
Breath snared, I can’t swallow back
The oxygen sucked from my lungs
While I feign a jocular insouciance
And brush the heat from my vision
This spark weaves a spell
This inferno makes me inert
Staring at a sinuous mistress of fire
Through the flames in my eyes
A yearning, flowing through my faculties with conflagration
Burning, to be the one who earns those lips
Or the way those eyes land softly on a thing
Caressing it with the empathy
I crave a taste of
Tenderly rendering my defenses moot
A delicate destruction you bring, exquisitely
Thoughts skittering feebly behind my forehead
As I surrender agency to urge and impulse
Tongue tied in a noose, a garrote to strangle
My unworthy words
Find me, see me
Know me, as I long to know you
A searing glow, untamed
A pyre I feed, and bathe in
I will persist, the scorch resist
Suffer burns in your proximity
So our minds meet
Here am I, there you stand
Eyes finding one another, at last
An ocean of complexities between us
A paucity of protests remaining to voice
Your face unfading in the shimmer
Until you’ve carved an alcove in my chest
A bower to burn in
Flesh, cracked and singed
A space claimed as your own
A right I won’t impinge
There you smolder, a coal burning defiantly all night
My fever, folded in my slumber
Where I swelter, dreaming of us
And the day I will embrace your flame

That is fabulous! OMG! I love to write! But I read something like this and I am leveled. The words you use are brilliant! Really enjoy your writing!
A stunning piece of poetry! It’s relentless and poignant and so real. You’ve set the bar high with this - it’s inspiring me to keep trudging along with my poems and gradually improve as I learn to play with words and imagery.
Thanks so much for this. Loved it.
